HVAC Duct Cleaning in Aliso Viejo, CA

Why ducts here load up with dust

Most of it starts at the return. The 1990s–2000s tracts got one large central return, undersized for the blower. Velocity is high. Air slips around the filter edges at the grille instead of through it. That bypassed dust lands in the plenum and coil. Santa Ana wind days push the loading hard. Return-side leakage in a wall chase can also pull garage air into the system.

In the attic we find the rest of the story. Flex branches sag and compress between joists. Boots pull loose from ceiling drywall and dump conditioned air into the attic, then draw attic dust and loose insulation fiber back into the supply. Builder drywall dust and sawdust are still sitting in twenty-year-old flex. Rodents and insects get into attic and crawlspace runs.

Older 1960s–70s homes are different work. Galvanized rectangular trunks, round takeoffs, floor or low-wall registers. Internal fiberglass liner in an old plenum sheds once it degrades. Raised-foundation homes near the coast have crawlspace ducts taking on ground moisture, and marine-layer humidity condenses on cold supply boots.

Cleaning is brushing plus negative air, registers sealed, return and plenum included. It does not fix crushed flex or a disconnected boot. Those get repaired or replaced. Typical households here do this every three to five years. Sooner with pets, allergies, remodels, roof work, or fine ash after a regional fire.
