Air Duct Cleaning in Dana Point, CA

Why Dana Point ducts foul the way they do
Salt aerosol drifts inland off the harbor and the bluffs. It settles on metal. Register boots and plenum seams corrode from the outside in. Then the marine layer adds the second half of the problem. Humidity through the long fog season condenses on cold supply runs, and damp dust stops being dust. It becomes a film a shop vac will not touch.
The housing stock splits here. Capistrano Beach and the Lantern District hold 1920s through 1960s cottages, many on raised foundations or stepped hillside lots. Crawlspaces are cramped. Ductwork was retrofit, often routed around framing that was never meant to carry it. Access is the whole job on those homes. We open at the boots and work short runs instead of forcing a trunk connection that does not exist.
Monarch Beach and Niguel Shores tracts from the 1970s to the 1990s are different work. Attic flex, longer runs, easier reach, but inner liners that tear if brushed carelessly.
Many older ocean-side homes have no AC and run heat only. Those duct interiors sit undisturbed for years, holding dust and salt-laden deposits. Ask to see the inside of one boot first. If it is clean, say so and keep your money.

My ducts are rusting at the boots — is that something you clean, or do those runs need to be replaced?
It depends on how far the corrosion has gone. Salt aerosol works on the metal boots and plenums in Dana Point homes, especially closer to the harbor and the bluffs, and we see it most in the older Capistrano Beach and Lantern District cottages where retrofit duct was pushed into tight crawlspaces decades ago. If the metal is surface-rusted but intact and the connections are still sealed, cleaning is worth doing and the run keeps serving. If a boot has rusted through, a flex connection has pulled loose, or the liner inside an old run is deteriorating, cleaning won't fix it and we'll tell you that instead of taking the job. We can usually give you a straight answer once we have a camera in the run.
What goes wrong with ducts here that doesn't happen inland?
Two things, mostly. First is corrosion at metal boots and plenums from the salt in the air, which gets into even well-kept systems. Second is condensation during the long fog season: cold supply runs sweat, and damp plus settled dust is what produces the musty smell people call about. On the hillside and raised-foundation homes, the crawlspace duct sits in the dampest part of the house, so that's usually where we find the worst of it. The 1970s-90s tracts up in Monarch Beach and Niguel Shores have attic flex instead, which has its own problems, including crushed runs, sagging bellies that collect dust, and tape joints that let go in attic heat.
What Happens After You Call Us
Call and tell us how many vents and where the furnace sits, attic or upstairs closet. We book you a two hour window and text when we leave for your address.
We pull the attic hatch, open a trunk drop, and show you what is actually in the flex before quoting. The estimate is free and the number is firm.
We clean the runs and plenum, replace the filter, test airflow at every register, and sweep up. You pay the quoted number, nothing added.
